As Christians we should have a desire for people who do not know Jesus! Jesus himself had a compassion for people. Look what it says in Mk. 6:34 ” When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And he began to teach them many things.” As Christian we have the one thing that will save them! So let us look at the Gospel, and why we share it.
1. Why do we share the gospel, because Jesus is the foundtion for salvation: “For it stands in Scripture; “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious” (2:6.a) Jesus is the cornerstone, and the cornerstone is where the two walls meet and where they are bound firmly together. Jesus is the only way to the Father! He is the foundtion that every thing is built on (Eph.2:20).
2. Why do we share the Gospel, because some will believe: “And whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” So the honor is for you who believe.” (6.b-7.a) The call is to whoever will believe, we share the gospel to all! Call on the name of the Lord and He will save you (Rom.10:11-13). And when you trust in Christ there will be no regrets “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame” Paul looked back on his life and counted it gain for all that he lost before he was a Christian (Phil.3:7-10). So we share because some will believe and come into a personal relationship with the Father and the Son (1Jon.1:3-4).
3. Why do we share the Gospel, because of the results of unbelief: “But for those who do not believe, the stone that the builder rejected has become the cornerstone, and a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense. They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.” (2:7.b-8) We see here the sin of unbelief. This is our lot, read titus. 3:3 and you will see our condition. That is why the call is to repent and believe on Christ Jesus! to some Christ is salvation, and to some he is the stone of stumbling, and rock of offense. Here we see human responsibility! And also God’s divine sovereignty! Read Rom.9:14-24 and remember it is all for God’s glory! Where it says “they diisobey the word as they were destined to do” is explained this way by MacArthur “These were not appointed by God to disobedience and unbelief. Rather, these were appointed to doom because of their disobedience and unbelief. Judgment on unbelief is as divinely appointed as salvation by faith.” The results of sin is death and eternal damnation (Matt.5:22). this is why we share the Gospel to all! Repent and believe! God’s mercy and grace and love are available, come to Christ, should be our call to those who do not believe! So this is why we share the Gospel. And I will close with this from 2Cor.4:7 “But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassind power belongs to God and not to us.”
